What Benefits Are Available Through Workers’ Compensation?

After an injury on the job, workers often want to know what kind of benefits they may be eligible to receive. Every case is unique, but there are a few common benefits that could apply to you.

Potential Workers’ Comp Benefits:

  • Medical Benefits – Your company’s workers’ compensation insurance carrier will pay for authorized medical treatment which includes the following: doctor bills, hospital bills, medications, physical therapy, medical supplies and travel expenses.

  • Weekly Income Benefits – If you are unable to work for more than 7 days due to your injury, you are entitled to weekly income benefits in the amount of two-thirds of your average weekly pay up to $525.00 per week. You should receive your first check within 21 days after the first day you missed work.

  • Help getting a new job – If you have sustained a catastrophic injury that prevents you from returning to your previous occupation, you may be eligible for vocational rehabilitation to prepare you for a new job.

  • Benefits for dependents – In the case of a fatal accident at work, the employee’s dependents are eligible to receive two-thirds of his/her average weekly pay up to $525.00 per week. Dependents are generally considered to be the surviving spouse, children and/or dependent stepchildren.

Report an injury to your employer immediately

You are only eligible for workers’ compensation benefits if you report your injuries within 30 days of the accident. Depending on the details of your accident, other causes of action may exist so it is important to speak with an attorney.
